Changan’s Avatar Technology unveils premium smart car E11

On August 24, 2021, Chinese car manufacturer Changan unveiled the first fruits of the premium EV brand Avatar Technology in partnership with Huawei and CATL. The company also showcased a teaser of their first model, a mid-sized SUV EV called E11.

On May 20, Changan Automobile said that Changan-Nio New Energy Automotive Technology Co., Ltd., the joint venture subsidiary, had changed its name to Avatar Technology Co, Ltd.

Changan has been working closely with Huawei and CATL over the past few months, developing their intelligent electric networked vehicle architecture called CHN. The E11, revealed by Zhu Huarong, Changan Chairman; Richard Yu, Huawei Managing director and Smart Car Solution CEO; and Robin Zeng, Chairman of CATL, will be built on this architecture.

According to the report cnevpost.com, while the E11 is their first product, Avatar Technology (Changan’s new EV arm) will develop at least 11 new products over the course of three years, including SUVs MPVs, and others.

The E11 will also come with Huawei Inside (HI) intelligent solutions and CATL’s latest electrification technologies. The E11 is currently undergoing full vehicle commissioning and will be unveiled by the end of the year.

Avatar was previously known as Changan NIO, with Changan holding a majority 95.38 percent stake while NIO held 4.62 percent. On May 20, 2021, Changan officially revealed the named change Avatar Technology with Tan Benhong now heading as Chairman and CEO.

Changan and Huawei

According to a report on May 21 from cnevpost.com, Changan said they were working closely with Huawei and CATL to become the world’s leading intelligent electric networked platform. Alongside the Avatar SUV, Changan also unveiled their first model on the new dedicated EV platform, called the C385. A new vehicle program will be launched, codenamed E0.
